Hotel Accommodation

Overview

Townsville University Hospital, James Cook University and other TropiQ precinct tenants, draw a substantial number of regional, national and international visitors to Townsville. Various accommodation investment opportunities will support those travelling to TropiQ, by providing short and medium stay accommodation options. The positioning of a hotel-style offering is particularly important for friends and family visiting patients in hospital, as current offerings in the near vicinity are extremely limited, and there is currently no open market accommodation with the TropiQ precinct. The client base will also be derived from short and medium stay for visiting academic and clinical staff, outpatients, contractors, and researchers. This accommodation offering will also support the emerging markets of medi- and edu-tourism.

Location and scale

Master planning indicates a minimum requirement of at least six levels for the first facility, which will be centrally and prominently located to service all TropiQ participants.

Components
  • Step-down accommodation for patients discharged from TUH, typically from outside of Townsville, who need to remain in proximity to re-present to TUH for ongoing treatment.

  • Opportunity for Bar/ Bistro offering on ground floor.
  • Conference facilities of a standard that will attract events associated with TUH and JCU.
